Wedding Invitations

Wording Guide

When to send out wedding invitations:

Although it will vary from couple to couple, generally wedding invitations should be sent out approximately 3-4 months before the wedding date. This timeline allows guests enough time to RSVP, make travel arrangements if needed, and prepare for the wedding day.

It's also a good idea to send out save the date cards 6-12 months before the wedding, especially if you're planning a destination wedding or getting married during a holiday weekend, as this gives your guests plenty of notice to make travel and accommodation arrangements.

What to include:

  • Host line: This is the line that names who is hosting the wedding. It can be one or both of the couple’s parents, or the couple themselves.
  • Request line: This is the line that invites guests to attend the wedding. Example: "request the pleasure of your company."
  • Names of the couple: Be sure to include your full names.
  • Date and time: Include the date and time of your wedding.
  • Ceremony Location: Include the full address of the ceremony location.
  • Reception Information: If the reception is taking place at a different location, include the address details for the reception here too. (The finer details can be included on a separate details card.)
  • Dress code: If you have a specific dress code, include it in the invitation. (This can also be included on a separate details card if preferred).
  • RSVP information: Provide guests with a way to RSVP, either through a wedding website or via phone or email. (This can also be included on a separate details card if preferred).
